Super Bowl Goes Green...

In 2008, the Super Bowl was completely powered by renewable energy.  This year, Super Bowl XLIII will be powered by renewable energy the NFL purchased from TECO, which gets its power from solar panels in the Tampa Bay area and from a biomass facility in South Florida.  In addition, the NFL will:

  • Donate unserved, prepared food from NFL-related parties to local food banks
  • Recycle solid waste throughout the Super Bowl footprint
  • Collect sports equipment for area schools
  • Will have a material donation program which donates décor, office supplies,
construction materials and other items used during Super Bowl to local
    non-profit agencies
  • Will use renewable energy at major event venues
  • Undertake a tree planting program as an offset to the additional greenhouses gas created by Super Bowl-related activities
