Beavan goes to the extreme, along with his wife, in becoming green. They go as far as giving up toilet paper in their humorous but committed adventure. There is much to learn from their bold endeavor and I highly recommend that you pick yourself up a copy.

Green Product of the Week: Dual Flush Toilet Kit...

Go Green: Install a Dual Flush Toilet Kit to Save Water

I came across a pretty unique kit that you can install in your current toilet that will allow you to choose to flush with Half the normal amount of water or a Full flush when needed. This is a great tool that could save a family of four 20,000 gallons of water per year since most toilet flushes only require a small amount of water to clean the bowl. This is also an inexpensive alternative to buying a low-flow toilet.

The Flush Choiceâ„¢ conversion kit is a high quality product that is inexpensive and proven to save you money. It can be installed by anyone following the simple instructions or you can have a licensed plumber do it for you.

Have you considered a dual flush conversion kit? What have your experiences been?

Green Product(s) of the Week: 2 Books to Help You ...

Go Green: Team with microbes for healthy soil Green Product(s) of the Week: 2 Books to Help You Understand Your Soil & Lawngrow a beautiful organic lawn Green Product(s) of the Week: 2 Books to Help You Understand Your Soil & Lawn

This spring, I ordered two books from Amazon Green Product(s) of the Week: 2 Books to Help You Understand Your Soil & Lawn to learn more about the soil in my garden and yard and how I can transform my lawn from one that was treated synthetically for years by the previous owner to one maintained organically.

After much research, I found the following two books that met my personal needs.

Teaming with Microbes Green Product(s) of the Week: 2 Books to Help You Understand Your Soil & Lawn is more technical than the The Organic Lawn Care Manual Green Product(s) of the Week: 2 Books to Help You Understand Your Soil & Lawn and is, in my mind, a prerequisite. It will help you understand in more detail on what is actually going on in your soil and what constitutes healthy soil. Then once you are armed with that knowledge, and applied it to your garden, you should pick up the Organic Lawn Care Manual. This book will teach you how to grow healthy and organic grass that fits with its use.

I hope you enjoy these two books and learn as much from them as I have.

Green Product of the Week: Preserve Toothbrushes...

Go Green: Preserve toothbrushes Green Product of the Week: Preserve Toothbrushes Made From Yogurt Cups

Preserve Green Product of the Week: Preserve Toothbrushes is a company that believes in the reduce, reuse & recycle mantra. In that spirit they have several different lines of products that are made from #5 polypropylene plastic that they collect from individuals via their Gimme 5 program.

My family was introduced to Preserve Green Product of the Week: Preserve Toothbrushes at Target while shopping for toothbrushes.  My wife needed an ultra soft brush Green Product of the Week: Preserve Toothbrushes
and it was the only brand that Target carried that had an ultra soft brush. Mind you, our first purchase had nothing to do with it being made from recycled plastic (it didn't hurt obviously) but that it was our only choice. However, my wife loved the toothbrush and we now buy them for her all the time. It is a high quality product, which all green products should be, and meets our criteria for green product of the week. Enjoy.

Green Product Review: OrganiGoGo.com Organic T-Shi...

OrganiGoGo, an online shop that sells all-organic apparel with eco-awareness themes created by independent artists committed to environmental issues, made its debut on April 11, 2009. Jean Roth, founder and graphic designer, says that OrganiGoGo's mission is three-fold. "One, I wanted to showcase a wide variety of designs that address a range of environmental issues, unlike so many online organic apparel shops that are limited in artistic scope. Two, I wanted all the clothing to be certified organic; and three, I wanted OrganiGoGo to be a viable economic opportunity for fellow designers at this difficult time."

The T-shirts on OrganiGoGo are largely from Econscious, whose t-shirts are made in factories that have been certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and American Apparel, whose Sustainable Edition is 100% USDA certified organic cotton.

For my review, I selected the Grow My Own Organic T-Shirt in size large. My first impression was WOW! I loved the simple but very effective design. I could also tell that high quality certified organic cotton was used in its creation; this is no flimsy mass produced shirt.

Although the price ($31.99) may turn some people off, you get what you pay for. This shirt should definitely be able to withstand frequent use and washing. Not to mention it should turn some heads and help get the Grow Your Own message out.

OrganiGoGo, has about 13 causes/themes to browse including Save Planet, Going Organic, Alternative Energies and Kid's Picks. The site is packed with original and inspiring designs created by independent artists who care about green issues.
